5 Tips for Working from Home

If you typically work from home then you would probably agree that how you begin your day is oftentimes a good indicator of how the rest of your day is going to go. It’s why they say that successful people make their beds in the morning. So what other things can we do, apart from making our beds, that will help ensure a productive, relatively stress-free workday at home?

Whether you work remote normally or are currently working from home due to COVID-19, here are some of our favorite tips to keep you on track:

Meditate

Make sure you allot some time, even if it is a few moments, for yourself in the morning that is free of screens or noise. Maybe you take a moment to meditate or just take some deep breaths. Maybe you do your skincare routine in its entirety. Maybe you make enough time for a run or some breakfast. Extra points if it all of these things!

Get Organized

Tidy your workspace, if it is not already. Set up your chargers or whatever else you need, and then make a to-do list. Write down everything you have to do that day including non-work related things, and check them off as you go for optimal satisfaction.

Dress for Success

It might be tempting to just stay in your PJs all day and take advantage of the fact that no one is going to be seeing you. But fight the urge. Get ready. It’s not like you have to suit up (unless that is how you are most comfortable). Just, you know, brush your teeth, shower, put some clothes on. Wear something that makes you feel good. If the mailman or mailwoman came to the door, dress so that you are socially acceptable enough to answer it.

Take a Break

If you were at an office, you would probably mingle with coworkers here and there. Your conversations would offer short breaks throughout the day from your tasks. Take breaks while you are at home, too. Especially if you are in a creative field, it might actually help you to do something else for a bit. Take a walk. Have a snack. Fold some of your laundry. Oftentimes, the best ideas strike when you aren’t actively trying to think of any. So if you hit a wall, don’t continue to stare at your computer screen, walk away from it for a bit.

Change your Scenery

If you are struggling to stay disciplined, we would usually recommend leaving home, heading to a café or coworking space (if you live here, we already have one on site!). Go somewhere designated for working. Or rather, in light of COVID-19, designate a place for working in your own home. Separating your workspace from your personal space can be helpful in maintaining focus and productivity.
